Free Church (Former)

Construction materials: Stone (whinstone) - Used for walls; Slate - Used for roof;

This town church replaced the Free Church formerly sited at Garple Linn, outside the village (site 9712). The church has whinstone and sandstone walls and a slate roof. It was bought by a local developer some time ago, but has now become even more derelict after a falling out with the planning authorities. The owner intends to let the church become ruinous, according to local opinion. Creeping vegetation and erosion are continuing to harm the building. Researched by A. Penman, compiled by J. Dowling, 18/9/03.
