Introduction

A medieval (or earlier) chapel is mentioned in a 19th century publication (Leighton, 1840), with the suggestion that it was suppressed during the Reformation in the late 16th century. There is little other information about the exact location of the chapel or if there are any surviving remains. There is a suggestion that remains alongside a steading at Downfield Farm may be those of the chapel (McInnes, 1994), although this is far from certain.
