Fetteresso Old Church stands in a prominent position on a rise in the centre of Fetteresso village. It is surrounded by a walled sub-rectangular graveyard. The church was dedicated in 1246 but is thought to stand on an earlier church which was dedicated to St Ciaran.
The church is surrounded by a graveyard with many gravestones, many of which are 18th and 19th century in date. There is a gateway in the north-west and south-east corners of the graveyard.
The church is a T-plan structure with a nave and north aisle. The nave measures 25m by 5.5m. It is rubble built with dressed sandstone corner stones (quoins) and surounds. The church has had several alterations during its history. There are parts of surviving medieval structure in the north wall and the later north aisle, which is centrally positioned, was built in 1720. The nave was shortened in the 18th century and gables were inserted at the west and east ends.
The principle south elevation has nine blocked openings, including a small arched doorway at the west end. The rectangular windows and another door have been blocked, likely when the ruined church was converted into a burial aisle. The west gable has a small bellcote, which is dated 1737. The bell no longer hangs in the bellcote. The north elevation is dominated by the north aisle, which has largely collapsed with the stonework removed. There is a round-arched doorway in the west end, which is thought to be 13th century in date.
The roofless ruin has no internal features other than a water stoup cavity in the south wall and a number of later gravestones when the interior became a burial aisle.
